Piatti Plates and platters for sharing inspired by Italy edition by Stacy Adimando Linda Pugliese Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews

  • Outstanding! This is a glorious book of Italian dishes to share. You’ll be inspired by the beautiful photographs. The binding on this one is particularly cool. The front cover folds open, and the book is still closed inside. The paper’s really thick and it stays open to the page you’re on really well.

That food! Her flavors are absolutely wonderful. There’s a huge range. I’ll show you what I tried, but list others I have flagged to try so that you can get a feel for what you’ll find.

My thoughts and pics of the dishes we tried
    1) Breaded Chicken Cutlets with Garlic-Roasted Cranberries – p 205. We loved these! The tart cranberries are a lovely contrast to the chicken. If you did this with turkey breasts, it could be very Thanksgiving-ish.
    2) Shrimp and Cherry Tomato Fra Diavolo – p 153. This dish have fabulous depth of flavor. The shrimp is flavored with onions, garlic, bacon, tomatoes wine, and basil, with a mild pepper level. Excellent and weeknight easy.
3-4) Eggplant Parmigiana – p 71. This is about a three hour commitment, but not at all difficult. It’s delicious. One of my kids grabbed three servings and then packed another for her lunch box tomorrow.
    5) Nanny’s Veal Braciolini – p 125. Divine. They’re stuffed with provolone, prosciutto, and herby cheesy breadcrumbs. It looks darling, but it’s actually really easy to make. I got them together while breakfast was in the oven, and pulled them out the fridge to sear when we were ready for dinner.
    6) Seared Italian Sausages – p 163. Easy peasy and so colorful and tasty. I love this spin on sausages with peppers and onions.
    7) Marinated Blackberries and Canteloupe – p 144. The flavor balance of this is terrific. Lime juice with a smidge of sugar and fish sauce to give a little contrast to the sweet fruit. I wouldn’t skip the mint. It elevates it.
    8) Grilled or Broiled Hot and Sweet Peppers – p 168. My family loves caprese, and this is a really interesting version of it. The broiled or grilled bell peppers bring a smoky sweetness, and that’s balanced by pops of spicy jalapenos and briny pepperoncinis, and dotted with creamy mozzarella.

I’ll update this as I play in the book more!

    Some others I have flagged to try Garlic Confit – p 23 * Classic Giardiniera – p 27 * Radish Giardiniera – p 28 * Winter Citrus Salad – p 48 * Roasted Shallots – p 50 * Baked Squash – p 65 * Black Lentils – p 67 * Roasted Vegetable Platter – p 69 * Crispy Pork Ribs – p 74 * Thinly Sliced Tuscan Pork Loin – p 78 * Roasted Romanesco and Cauliflower – p 83 * Shaved Fennel Salad – p 97 * Braised Artichokes – p 129 * Charred Radicchio and Corn Salad – p 139 * Nectarine, Salami, and Arugula Salad – p 145 * Sausage-Stuffed Fresh Cherry Peppers – p 162 * Warm Olives – p 177 * Tri Color Beets – p 201 * Fried Beef Meatballs
